AkzoNobel Opens New Paint Processing Center

One of the largest Dutch manufacturers of paints and varnishes will present an innovative center for secondary production, which promises to produce 100 thousand liters of paint by the end of 2017.

The company plans to increase production to three million liters by 2020.

The Virral Center is the second facility created by AkzoNobel in partnership with Community RePaint, whose goal is to reduce the amount of paint that is thrown into the landfill, providing an inexpensive, high-quality product.

The launch will take place a year after AkzoNobel established a secondary production center in Cambridge, which has since produced about 10,000 liters of recycled paint and distributed it to over 13,000 community groups and individuals.

Waste solution

AkzoNobel Managing Director UK and Ireland Matt Pullen said:

British households throw out 55 million liters of paint every year, but more than half of that paint is good enough material for reuse. This innovative scheme allows you to reduce the amount of paint waste, and also allows you to purchase inexpensive paint for the poor.

Processing technology is the result of many years of collaboration between AkzoNobel, Newlife Paints and Community RePain, who have long looked for ways to create remanufacturing centers throughout the country.

Colorful ambition

At that time, the company wants to spark the industry-wide push for moving away from solvent-based paints to cleaner, water-based paints.

This latest AkzoNobel initiative underlines the company's commitment to lead the paint industry in its quest to reduce emissions and accelerate the transition to a circular economy.
