Will the demand for coated rolled products increase in Russia?
The authoritative publication "Metal Supply and Sales" published information on the consumption of steel for the first five months of this year.
Based on the estimates of Sergey Maslennikov, the general director of the Russian company Steelinvest, it claims that the total demand for rolled steel with a polymer coating decreased to 540 thousand tons, decreasing by 6%. But, thanks to a 1% increase in galvanized steel, reaching 880 thousand tons, the market received a steady increase of 2% of the total.
Sergei Maslennikov is sure that the situation has stabilized a little and has a tendency to improve in the future. However, some experts in this market are less optimistic. For example, Irek Garipov, deputy managing director of a major producer of Kazan Steel Profiles, believes that the second half of the year will bring a sharp increase in prices for the coated flat segment. And this will inevitably affect a sharp drop in the entire market for the production of all types of metal.
