Selection and application of copper paint for metal

Painting metal under copper - gives the surface a special beauty and solidity. There is also practical sense in staining, since after high-quality processing the metal acquires protection against excessive moisture, thereby reducing the likelihood of corrosion.

Solution selection

Previously, in the composition of any paint material for copper was an organic solvent. As a result, this paint had an unpleasant odor, which reduced the possibilities for its use.

Modern paints are water-soluble mixtures, which include natural metallic dyes. The connecting elements are acrylates.

Acrylic paint for copper is characterized by a number of positive properties:

  1. Environmental friendliness of the composition (when dried, only moisture is released), the absence of extraneous odors.
  2. Affordable prices, since the use of a water base is inexpensive.
  3. Aesthetic and believable “copper” look of the painted surface. If desired, you can give the surface an aged look.
  4. The painting technology is not difficult, and therefore available to anyone.
  5. Protected surface from moisture. Moisture resistance prevents corrosion processes.
  6. Increased resistance to mechanical influences and ultraviolet radiation. Thus, even after many years, the painted surface will look like new. If the operating conditions are not violated, the service life of the surface is 10 years or more.

Note! In rooms where there are flammable substances, it is recommended to use only special fire retardant coatings for metal. In the event of a flame, they foam, making it impossible to spread.

Surface preparation

First of all, prepare the surface. To do this, remove traces of corrosion and old paint. If this is not done, the applied layer of material will not hold well and staining will become useless.

Surface cleaning is done in one of three ways:

  1. Mechanical. It is carried out using a wire brush or abrasive discs. It is recommended to use this method only for surfaces where rough processing is acceptable. Important note: mechanical cleaning should be carried out only with adequate protection of the respiratory system from the ingress of metal dust.
  2. Sandblasting. Cleaning is carried out with special equipment that, under high pressure, directs the flow of sand grains to traces of corrosion, old paint and scale. The sandblasting method is effective for cleaning the surface even in hard to reach places. The only drawback of the method is the high equipment prices.
  3. Chemicals Removing rust, scale and old paint can be done with chemicals. Chemistry reacts with removed elements, destroying them. After processing, it remains only to remove the remaining rust and paint with a cloth.

Regardless of the chosen method, you need to finish the work by finishing cleaning the surface - it should be as clean as possible.

After cleaning the metal we proceed to priming. This increases the adhesive quality of the surface and obtain additional protection of the metal from moisture. You can start painting only after the soil has completely dried.

Painting

Further actions depend on what result should be achieved, a single-layer coating or multi-layer.

To create a monophonic coating, we carry out the following sequence of actions:

  • mix the paint with white spirit or water (in accordance with the instructions on the package);
  • on flat areas we apply paint with a roller, and for hard-to-reach spots and small details we use brushes;
  • let the paint dry;
  • we check the quality of the painting with the help of bright light directed to the surface, and if there are no defects, the work is done efficiently.

If you want to make the color more saturated, apply an additional layer of copper paint. The first layer is made with dark paint using a spray gun or brush. After that we conduct glazing, i.e. apply an uneven thin layer of lighter paint on the already dried lower layer.

We treat the raised relief areas with dark paint. The final part of the finish is surface treatment with varnish, wax or metallized powder.

Work on giving the metal a copper color does not require high qualifications and can be carried out by anyone. It only takes care, accuracy and patience.

    good afternoon
    I'm interested in paint (copper solution) I want to paint things and then after painting the parts, I want to do galvanic processing.
