The world's pinkest paint available to all but one person

Surrey NanoSystems Invented In The UK In 2014 the darkest material in the world. The substance consists of billions of carbon nanotubes and has the exceptional ability to absorb 99.96% of the light incident on it. Super black coating called Vantablack. Initially, high-tech material was developed for space and military purposes, but immediately turned out to be in demand in the field of art.

Soon after the appearance of Vantablack, British-Indian sculptor Anish Kapoor contacted the developers to obtain exclusive rights to use spray paint in his work.

This monopolization of the material raised a wave of criticism and indignation among other artists. Other artists also wanted to work with the new technology, but the transfer of rights to it to one person excluded this possibility.

Making the pinkest paint

In professional circles, the action on the part of Anish was regarded as a manifestation of greed. Among the artists, disappointed with the colleague’s deed, was the British Stuart Sample, who, in response to this restriction, released and patented his own dye Pinkest Pink.

Pinkest Pink dye designed by Stuart Sample

The pigment was developed by Sample in collaboration with major paint manufacturers around the world. Stewart claims that the substance produced is distinguished by its unique brightness, and the technology for its creation and composition are unique.

According to Sample, the hue has a particular saturation and fluorescence, which no pink dye has. The product is, as it were, contrasted with the patented black: if Anish’s material absorbs almost all of the light, Stuart’s “brainchild” reflects it as much as possible.

The artist says that the limited rights to an improved version of black paint very upset him, because he could use Vantablack in his work on a par with Kapoor. "The pinkest pink" was created in protest and became available to everyone, except Anish Kapoor.

Prohibition of use

Sample entered into an agreement with distributors that the substance should not fall into the hands of Kapoor. When making a purchase, each client must officially confirm that he is not Anish Kapoor, does not buy paint on his behalf and has no connections with this person.

Kapoor's attitude to the ban

The imposed ban did not stop the owner of Vantablack. Instagram users following Anish’s work were able to see in his account a photo with a purchased jar of the same pigment. It happened a short time after the release of Pinkest Pink. The sculptor clearly demonstrated his attitude to the situation, capturing the middle finger in the photo, smeared with bright pink powder.

It is known that the art war between the British was not over.Later, Stuart Sample released several more of its own products, called Glittery Glitter (the most brilliant glitter), Blackest Black (ultra-black; an advanced analogue of NanoSystems products), as well as Shift and Phaze (rainbow dyes that can change color depending on temperature).

For the sculptor and his partners, of course, access to new items was limited.
