Properties and features of the use of acid-resistant paints

To protect some surfaces from aggressive environmental conditions, paints with special qualities are needed. Such paints and varnishes (coatings) should not be destroyed by the action of acid or other chemically active substances. Acid-resistant paint refers specifically to such highly resistant materials used for processing critical surfaces.

Characteristics of anti-acid paints

There are several varieties of acid-resistant paints on the market. Paints differ from each other in composition, but the preparatory work in all cases is practically unchanged and can vary only depending on the type of coating.

Acid resistant paint HV-785

The most well-known acid-resistant paintwork is XB-785. Paint is available since the days of the USSR. It is with these compositions that most of the surfaces used in aggressive environments are painted.

Note! Technical requirements for acid-resistant paints are set out in GOST 7313-75.

Acid-resistant compounds have the following characteristics:

  1. The basis of this type of paint material is a mixture of two resins - alkyd and polyvinyl chloride. These components are diluted with an organic solvent. Pigmenting agents and plasticizers are used as additives: they improve the characteristics of the material, as well as increase the resistance of the protective coating to the external environment.
  2. The finished solution is intended for use only as part of a comprehensive protective coating. In other words, if you paint an unprepared surface with such paint, the manufacturer will refuse to give a guarantee of preserving the declared properties of the goods.
  3. Acid-resistant composition can be used for coloring a wide variety of materials, including metals, concrete, plastered surfaces. Paint and varnish material can be used both for painting the internal parts of buildings and facades.
  4. When the painted surface dries, it acquires all the characteristics specified by the manufacturer. However, it should be borne in mind that anti-acid coatings lose their quality at temperatures above 60 degrees Celsius.
  5. Acid-resistant formulations should be applied exclusively by spraying. Brushes and rollers are not used for working with such paint.

Primer varnish

Before painting the surface, it must be primed. For XB-785 paint, XB-784 varnish is used as a primer. The characteristics of this varnish, its quality parameters are determined by the provisions of GOST 7313-75.

The use of primer varnish makes it possible to strengthen the base, to achieve the best adhesive qualities of the coating. It is priming that ensures the reliability of the protective coating and allows you to extend its service life.

Two component formulations

Recently, two-component compositions in which epoxy paints and hydrocarbon resins are combined are becoming increasingly popular.

The following qualities are characteristic of paints and varnishes of this type:

  1. The components are offered separately, so they must be mixed before painting. Moreover, it is necessary to achieve complete uniformity of the composition, otherwise the coating properties will be worse than they could. It is recommended to mix the components with a drill with a mixer installed on it. Stir the composition better at low speeds so as not to spray the liquid.
  2. Two-component compositions can be applied not only with a spray, but also with a brush or roller. The choice of a specific method of surface treatment is dictated by the tasks and volume of painting.
  3. Apply the paintwork with the use of protective equipment. You will need a bathrobe, gloves and a respirator. If you do not take care of safety, paint that gets on the skin can cause irritation or allergies.
  4. About a day after staining, the coating dries and is ready for use in adverse environmental conditions.

Note! Surfaces painted with anti-acid paints can be washed with detergents. This will not damage the base or change its characteristics.

Features of the work

When conducting work, you must adhere to a number of rules:

  1. Acid-resistant wall paints must not be diluted with extraneous components. This will adversely affect the quality of the coating.
  2. If the weather forecast reports rain, the job should be canceled. According to technological requirements, surface drying should occur without direct contact with water.
  3. Only a dry surface can be painted.
  4. The base must not be dirty. It is necessary to remove garbage, dust and oil stains from it.
  5. The surface should not be loose. If this is so, you must either refuse painting, or take measures to create a denser surface.
  6. Painting works can only be carried out in the recommended temperature regime: maximum temperature - 30 degrees Celsius, minimum - 5 degrees.

The work is performed in the following order:

  1. The first step is to remove dirt from the surface.
  2. If the base is wet, it must be dried. If necessary, you can use a building hair dryer or heat gun.
  3. When the surface is dry and clean, a primer is applied.
  4. Staining is done in 2 layers. This is a minimum requirement, as in some cases 3-4 coats of paint may be needed.

Acid-resistant and alkali-resistant AnticorChem paint

The market presents not only XB-785, but also other types of antioxidants. One of them is acid-resistant AnticorChem paint. As an example, we analyze the characteristics of the specified paint and varnish material and the features of its application.

AnticorChem is used to paint the following types of surfaces:

  1. Technological equipment, as well as bathtubs made of metal structures, which during operation come into contact with acidic and alkaline environments.
  2. Tanks for storage and transportation of oil products, acids and alcohols.
  3. Sea vessels, hydraulic structures.
  4. Piers and metal piles.
  5. Steel structures operated at high loads (steps, handrails, platforms, etc.).

Advantages of AntikorChem paint:

  1. Resistance to aggressive environmental influences. The paint is specially adapted for use in harsh conditions. A distinctive feature of AnticorChem is a higher temperature threshold compared to competitors: the coating does not lose its qualities at temperatures up to 70 degrees Celsius.
  2. Drying speed and relatively low requirements for preparatory work. The paint dries within an hour, and you can even apply it on a rusty surface.
  3. Universality of application. AnticorChem possesses excellent adhesive characteristics not only for mild steel, but also for galvanizing and non-ferrous metals.

Acid-resistant paint Anticorchem

Resistant to aggressive environment paints for metal and other materials are indispensable in industry and construction. Anti-acid compounds impose increased requirements for compliance with the process. Therefore, before using such paints, it is recommended that you carefully read the instructions from the manufacturer.
