The need for hoods for the organization of painting and the possibility of its independent installation

Any master knows that for the full-fledged operation of the spray booth, a competently designed hood for painting is needed. But many will be surprised: “What does the camera for painting have to do with it, if the painting of the machine is carried out in a garage or workshop?” In fact, a camera for painting is any room where work with dyes is carried out, so the garage and workshop temporarily become such a camera, and you need to take care of the hood.

What are the exhaust systems

Many who decide to paint their car with water enamel will think that the hood in the garage is not needed, because water dyes are non-toxic and can not harm health. But this is an erroneous opinion. If the painting was carried out in a chamber without an exhaust device, the result will never be excellent - the varnish will lie in an uneven layer, and drying will be uneven.

What parameters to choose a hood? To do this, you need to take into account the size of the room, and only then select the type of exhaust device.

Twin engine

Forced type of ventilation, in which the air is forced and removed by means of special fans. Suitable for large auto repair shops or paint shops. It can be installed as a hood for the garage to paint the car, but excessive fan power will lead to unreasonable energy consumption. If desired, you can make a twin-engine exhaust device yourself by installing fans of low power.

Single engine

Air is pumped into the chamber under pressure, and its removal occurs naturally through ventilation holes. Equipped with medium and low power blowers, such designs become optimal for small workshops and garages where work with various dyes is carried out.

General exchange, supply and exhaust

Air enters and is removed independently due to the temperature difference and a slight difference in pressure of the air masses. A good option for ventilation, but not suitable for paint work, because in hot weather and calm weather, the exhaust design will not work.

Mounting Features

Exhaust devices are mounted during construction immediately after the wall sheathing has been completed and wiring has been laid. The hole for removing air masses should be located much lower (ideal option - in the floor) than where the air comes from. This design feature allows you to remove not only exhaust air, but also fine particles that appear when working with spray guns.

If necessary, re-equipment of the finished premises is also possible.The exhaust pipe is installed almost at the floor level, and the exhaust hole is installed under the ceiling.

Installation of hoods in the garage from the finished elements

A hood in a garage or workshop can be mounted from prefabricated elements. In this case, there are no difficulties: just follow the instructions, and a quality installation will be made. But ready-made exhaust devices are expensive, and not everyone can afford them. If there is no money, but it is necessary to paint, then it is quite possible to make a hood yourself.

Materials for self-manufacturing an exhaust device

To make an exhaust structure in the garage with your own hands, you will need:

  • duct fan;
  • fasteners and clamps;
  • gaskets, sealant;
  • cement, mounting foam and putty;
  • air ducts. You can buy ready-made stainless steel or galvanized steel, or you can save a little by using plastic pipes for sewers of the appropriate diameter. The disadvantage of sewer pipes is their non-standard nature and the need to manufacture an additional adapter for connecting a fan.

In addition, you will need tools for drilling and tightening screws, various spatulas.

The fan has special requirements. Its parameters should correspond to the following indicators:

  • power - 20-50 W;
  • powered by electricity 220 V;
  • diameter of the blower channel - 120-150 mm;
  • the amount of air volume to be distilled - 150-300 m3 / h;
  • the atmospheric pressure created in the duct is 50-100 Pa.

These parameters are necessary for painting a car, so that an excellent result is obtained and nothing threatens the health of the master.

How to mount a hood with your own hands

All materials are purchased, it remains to figure out how to make a hood. To do this, follow the instructions:

  1. Punch holes for air ducts. The inlet must be located on the wall as high as possible, and the exhaust outlet as low as possible. You can’t have holes on one wall, they should be opposite each other so that mentally between them it was possible to draw a diagonal through the entire room.
  2. Collect the air ducts by connecting the pipe parts with clamps. It is recommended to install thin metal mesh in the pipes to protect against rodents. One protective net made is always not enough; it is better to install mesh barriers at each pipe connection. This will not hinder the movement of air, and the probability of penetration of rodents will become minimal. A “roof" is installed on the upper duct, which does not interfere with the movement of air masses, but serves as protection against water entering the pipe. From the stainless steel, you can rivet the protective cone yourself, and for sewer pipes, purchase the appropriate nozzle in the store.
  3. Air ducts are installed in the holes intended for them and fixed using mounting foam and cement. After the installation media has dried, the wall is leveled with plaster.
  4. An axial fan is attached to the air-injection pipe with an adapter and connected to the mains. If desired, you can create a twin-engine ventilation by attaching a similar ventilating device to the exhaust pipe.
  5. Now you can check the operation of the device.

Such a home-made hood to perform painting will work no worse than purchased in a store, and when the fans are off, it will provide ventilation of the room by supply and exhaust type. With such ventilation, the staining result will be good, and toxic dyes will not harm the health of the master.

After making sure that any room where painting work is being carried out is a spray booth, each master will take care of equipping the workshop with a hood. Someone will get a ready-made one and pay for the installation to professionals, but someone will want to save a little and do all the work on their own.
