3. Flat vinyls have a traditional lower vinyl layer and a thin upper one, here other materials are added to the polyvinyl chloride (most often silk fibers). There are options for vinyl wallpaper on a non-woven basis, which can also be painted.

If you paint simple paper wallpapers, then they can get wet, simply tear. Some vinyls also have a paper base, so if you plan to paint the wallpaper, then buying them, pay attention to the inscription "For painting." If it is not, it is better not to risk it.

Typically, wallpaper for painting is completely white or have soft pastel colors - so they will look better after painting color. Such material, in comparison with analogues, costs less, because painting non-woven wallpaper with your own hands will require paint costs. If you use a stencil on the wall (they are sold in construction stores), then you can apply the original drawing. For a smaller drawing, a stencil on a roller is used.

Wiped

With this method, the wallpaper is painted, as in the second embodiment, and then wiped with a dry cloth. So the picture on the canvas will be lighter. Here they use the feature of foamed PVC to be more slowly permeated with paint from the front than the base. For such work two are required: one paints, the other wipes. The process is time consuming.

Selective drawing

Here, first, the main paint is applied, and then, using a brush and a different color, the pattern on the canvas is highlighted. This is a complex and lengthy process, but it is within the reach of creative people.

Features of the choice of paint

If you have decided on the type of painting, go to the choice of the main thing - the paint itself. First you need to choose the type of paint. It should be water-based - not oily. Paint for vinyl wallpaper is acrylic (best), latex, dispersion or water based. Masters prefer acrylic on a latex basis. It is important its resistance to sunlight, detergents, burnout, as well as its strength, environmental friendliness and speed of drying.

Today in construction supermarkets you can find a special paint for wallpaper. It can be immediately with the desired color, but white is more common, dye (color) is added to it.

• masking tape;

If painting is carried out before pasting, it is important to prepare the walls for wallpapering. Clean them from the old coating, repair cracks and other damage, smooth the walls - do this work before painting the wallpaper so as not to stain already painted canvases.

Before painting vinyl wallpapers already pasted on the walls, be sure to clean them of dust and dirt. After cleaning, degrease, wipe the sheets with a soft cotton cloth dampened with dishwashing detergent. Proceed with staining only after the panel has completely dried.

Basic rules for staining

Start painting only when the canvases are completely dry. Paint on water will wet the wallpaper again, make it heavy, do not complicate your work. It can also damage the pattern or even the entire canvas.

The order is as follows:

1. Before starting work, mask the joints of the wallpaper with doorways and baseboards with masking tape. Cover the floor with a protective film. All materials and tools should be close at hand.
2. Dilute such an amount of paint that is enough for the entire amount of work, otherwise your walls will have a different shade.
3. Paint the ceiling first and only then start painting the walls.
4. Start painting the walls below, move up.
5. If the work is carried out with a roller, then do not use foam rubber - it can ruin the texture. Those places where the roller does not reach, paint over with a brush.
6. First paint in 2 layers. Paint the wallpaper once, let it dry for 1 hour, and then repeat the painting.

The paint should be of medium density. Thick paint will clog the relief of the pattern, which will lead to a decrease in the possible number of stains.

Color can only be appreciated after complete drying. Gloss will appear in 3 days.

When asked whether it is possible to paint vinyl wallpapers on a paper basis, the answer will be this: you can try, but it’s better not to. Even if they have been pasted for a long time, have a very dense structure, they can become sour, lose the pattern, peel off, swell or tear.
