How not to make a mistake when choosing glue for sandwich panels

The design of sandwich panels is quite simple. So that all layers adhere well to each other, you need to choose the right compound. The ideal solution is adhesive for sandwich panels based on polyurethane. Water-resistant, frost-resistant, elastic and sufficiently strong composition allows to obtain a high-quality connection.

One-component and two-component adhesive

When choosing glue, they focus not only on technical characteristics that determine the features of working with it, but also pay attention to:

  • environmental requirements;
  • operational characteristics that indicate the ability to hold parts together;
  • economic requirements that determine the cost of glue and work;
  • various characteristics that reflect the ability to work in certain temperature conditions, with high humidity and so on.

Two-component universal adhesive for assembling sandwich panels

Adhesive can be either one-component or two-component. Two-component compositions are best used for:

  • drywall;
  • painted metal;
  • mineral wool;
  • black steel;
  • plastic.

One-component, in turn, for:

  • concrete;
  • of stainless steel;
  • a tree;
  • aluminum.

The special composition of the adhesive allows you to use it when creating sandwich panels for any purpose: roofing or wall, for residential buildings and structures, refrigeration or industrial facilities.

The main factors when choosing glue are:

  • ease of use (in a single-component composition, the hardener is water, which simplifies the work with it);
  • fast polymerization (in two-component glue the curing process is faster);
  • preparatory stage (two-component compositions must first be mixed, which requires additional equipment).

Note. Both types of glue can be applied both manually and mechanically.

Sealing tape for sandwich panels

One of the important stages of panel installation is the correct joining of parts. It is possible only in the case of a snug fit of the panel to the structural elements. Self-adhesive sealing tapes take over this function.

Important! Seams and joints between panels - the most vulnerable place of buildings and structures erected from sandwich panels.

The sealant is made of polyethylene, which has several advantages:

  • low cost;
  • ease of use;
  • reliable protection against moisture;
  • resistance to alkalis and acids;
  • good durability.

Butyl rubber tape and cord for sandwich panels

The tape is created with a special adhesive layer of synthetic rubber, which makes the fastening process easy, and the joint of materials is durable. In addition, designs, during the installation of which seals were used, are characterized by good tightness, which ensures their durability.

Sandwich Panel Adhesive

There are two types of equipment for the production of panels on the market.They are divided depending on the method of obtaining heat-insulating structures into an intermittent (periodic) and continuous (continuous) method. In the first production variant, the following types of equipment are used:

  • screw press, for which one-component polyurethane adhesives are best suited with an open exposure time of 40–90 minutes;
  • two-tier thermal press, which requires the use of a single-component adhesive, quick curing (7-10 minutes);

Expanded polystyrene (a material obtained by adding gas to the polymer mass of polystyrene) and mineral wool are used as insulation in sandwich panels manufactured in a discontinuous manner.

The continuous method is applied in the case of the manufacture of panels, the facing element of which is cold rolled steel coil. As a heater, a basalt plate and expanded polystyrene act. The whole process is a continuous flow of production. Two-component polyurethane adhesives are used on sandwich panel production lines. The glue is mixed before application in a static mixer immediately before application.

Two-component adhesives for the production of sandwich panels

In addition, before gluing a sandwich panel, it is important to determine the type of future products (cladding and insulation):

  • for panels that are used in the construction of walls for "Canadian" houses such as "Ecopan", "Izolyuks" and "Izod" made of polystyrene foam, one-component polyurethane adhesive is best;
  • “Sandwiches” for window slopes, balcony doors, made of ordinary foam or extruded polystyrene foam, can be glued with both two-component polyurethane adhesive or one-component;
  • panels for external building envelopes, in the manufacture of which mineral wool, extruded polystyrene foam, foamglass or vermiculite with a cladding of aluminum, drywall, chipboard, fiberboard, wood or plywood are used;
  • sandwich panels for isothermal vans with polyurethane foam insulation and steel or aluminum cladding are produced using both two-component polyurethane adhesives and one-component compounds.

The choice of adhesive for sandwich panels is an important factor in obtaining a quality product. It is necessary to focus, first of all, on the qualitative characteristics of those materials that are planned to be glued, as well as their lining and insulation. In addition, it is important to take into account the particular conditions in which the panels will be used after gluing, and the type of adhesive and pressing equipment.

The most popular of the variety of varieties of adhesives for the production of sandwich panels are compositions based on polyurethane, which are highly resistant to cold and various atmospheric influences.
