What is a water-dispersion primer and where is it used?

A water-dispersion primer is a special solution used as a preliminary coating on a surface before applying top coat or paint, wallpaper, flooring, plaster and other finishing materials.

The primer has several main purposes:

  • additional protection of the main material from the influence of external environments;
  • extension of the service life of the finish;
  • providing the best adhesion of a decorative covering or a finishing layer with the basis;
  • decorative attractiveness of the surface after repair.

What is water dispersion?

The dispersion mixture is called because it is obtained by dissolving the solid particles of the filler in a liquid. Fillers serve to impart a mixture of working properties: viscosity, density, density, tack, color. Therefore, the aqueous dispersion becomes after the solid particles are combined with water.

It will take some time after surface treatment and the water will evaporate. Binders harden and become water resistant. A thin, strong protective film forms on the surface.

Water dispersible materials are usually a stable formation. On average, such a material in an aggregate state has a density of about 1.0 kg / l. And if the solution looks very concentrated, then it can be easily diluted with water.

But if you do not observe the proportions of water, this stability will deteriorate. However, such materials are non-toxic, non-aggressive to other materials, simple and easy to use. Subject to the rules of processing and operation of surfaces, increase density, strength, extend their durability.

Primer application

Experts advise using a primer in any case. For example, during repair and construction, the material is applicable for external and internal works. It is treated with chalky, plastered surfaces, concrete, gypsum, gypsum board, brick, wood, cement, which will then be coated with paint.

The deep-penetrating primer has good physical and mechanical properties. It is used to strengthen fragile, porous, loose layers of surfaces. It impregnates the surface immediately before painting.

The most popular universal primer mixture. It is used for the treatment of absorbent and non-absorbent substrates before puttying, flooring, plastering, paint or varnishing. Water-dispersion universal primer has the following advantages:

  • resistant to alkaline effects;
  • frost resistant;
  • non-toxic (does not have volatile solvents);
  • fireproof;
  • heat resistant (as is the case with the technology of "warm floor");
  • has an economical expense;
  • diluted with water;
  • improves adhesive qualities of materials used in further finishing.

Water-dispersion mixtures with anti-corrosion properties are used to protect metal structures.Apply before painting or varnishing. Depending on the composition of the additives, they can be used directly as a topcoat.

Different dispersion primer
The water-dispersion primer can be different, choose the one suitable for your conditions and material

Primers with antiseptic properties protect materials from the formation of fungus, mold. This is especially appreciated in conditions of constant humidity.

The type of water-dispersion primer mixture (composition quality) is selected taking into account the qualities of the finish coating, the operational characteristics of the room, the climatic conditions of the area.

To ensure that construction, repair and finishing work went well, and the result lasts longer, experts strongly recommend always using primers.
