Imitation brickwork with egg cartons

In recent years, brickwork in interior decoration has been gaining more and more popularity. Despite the fact that this type of finish always looks very impressive and unusual, many refuse it because of the high cost of the materials used. There are more budgetary ways to decorate the walls with imitation brick tiles, which anyone can repeat.

Imitation brickwork from egg trays

The described methods do not require special skill, just follow the instructions. As the basis for the decorative coating, we will use ordinary egg trays.

Option 1

To create the bricks, we need the following materials and tools:

  • egg paper trays;
  • transparent film made of polyethylene;
  • marker and ruler;
  • water;
  • putty knife;
  • dry gypsum and putty;
  • a plastic bucket or other similar container;
  • brushes;
  • paint.

Cooking mass

We proceed to the manufacture of:

  1. First you need to draw a surface of the film, marking on it with a marker and a ruler blocks 7x20 cm in size.
  2. Break the egg trays themselves into small pieces in a chaotic manner.
  3. Fold the resulting workpieces into a container, for example, in a plastic bucket, and fill with warm water. In order for the shredded paper to get wet properly and turn into a homogeneous soft mass, it is necessary to leave it in water for 2-3 hours.
  4. After the set time has elapsed, add the building gypsum to the wet board and mix thoroughly. Three egg cartons will require approximately 2-3 tablespoons of the dry mix. Of this number of components, 7 bricks will be obtained.
  5. To adjust the density of the mass and achieve a denser consistency, you can add a little more gypsum.

  1. Lay the film with the previously marked stencil on a flat surface with the back side up and fix it with tape.
  2. Now we carefully fill each cell with the prepared gypsum-cardboard mixture. Use a spatula to level the tile walls.
  3. If excess water forms on the surface, remove them with paper towels and continue building bricks.
  4. After the entire mass is involved, leave the workpieces to dry at room temperature. This process will take about 3-4 hours.
  5. To speed up solidification, you can move the dried workpieces to open air.
  6. Dilute the final dry putty with water and cover it with frozen bricks with a brush. Dry well.
  7. Additionally, you can apply acrylic paint on them - white or color - at your discretion.

Option 2

We offer another way to create a brick decor from egg boxes.To make such a coating, we need: cardboard, several egg packages, glue and paint.

Sequencing:

  1. From cardboard we cut out rectangles corresponding to the size of the brick.
  2. We cut the egg trays into pieces of different sizes, trying to maintain a heterogeneous relief.
  3. We apply glue to the strips of cardboard and begin to fix the prepared volumetric pieces from the edges, gradually moving towards the center and filling all the voids.
  4. When the glue dries, cover the bricks with paint.

Done. Now you can begin to "lay" the brick. The blanks can be fixed on the wall with the same glue used to create them. Between the bricks, try to leave small gaps. They will subsequently need to be filled with cement mortar.

Making such bricks for wall decor will bring a lot of pleasure and does not require large financial costs.
