How to choose a spray gun for liquid rubber?

Various car services offer a service such as liquid rubber painting. But this method of dyeing is rather whimsical in the application method, and the owners of the boxes are thinking about which airbrush to apply liquid rubber for for this purpose.

Choosing the right spray gun

Classification

To begin with, it is worth determining what types of spray guns generally exist. Basically they are divided into three types: electric, pump, air. All guns are designed for specific purposes, and using them for other purposes will not lead to far from the results that you expected.

Modern option

Electric guns are only suitable for painting walls or fences and are completely unsuitable for professional work with cars. The airflow in such spray guns is too great, and using them, you will immediately notice that the rubber paint flying out of the nozzle looks more like drops of colored rain than an aerosol. The pressure constantly jumps, which, in turn, does not give a high-quality paint to the surface, and it is low enough so that the rubber sticks to the surface and does not bounce off of it.

Modern electric spray gun

But there are also worthy models of electric spray guns that can cope with this work by four with a slight minus. The price of a really good aggregate is very high, and the average price model will paint the maximum to the effect of an orange peel. A good advantage of electric guns is compactness in their use. To get started, you just need to find a socket and fill the material.

Classic

Pump spray guns by modern standards are completely unsuitable for painting. In order to spray any of such a device, it is necessary to manually pressurize the liquid tank, which is inconvenient. Now they are used except for whitewashing walls at home.

If you still have such an aggregate, then, perhaps, you can give it a second life - as a sprayer from pests.

Old school

And finally, the leader is an ordinary airbrush, which uses air under pressure to spray it. There are also disadvantages - such a pistol requires a compressor, a lot of space and a large amount of money, which, by the way, will quickly pay off if you do business on this. At this disadvantage of the spray gun ran out.

Airbrush ordinary

The torch of air guns is quite high quality, which allows you to apply rubber with a good and even layer. You can adjust the pressure, spray any paint materials. By spraying liquid rubber, it will be possible to achieve a layer thickness of 70 microns ideal for a car. There will be no cost overruns if you already have experience in similar jobs.

What to choose

Liquid rubber is rather capricious, and in order to apply it to the surface qualitatively, a certain pressure is needed. Either an air or a very expensive electric airbrush will cope with such a task. Regarding the quality of painting, an ordinary gun, of course, leads, but it is not always possible to allocate space for a compressor, without which this gun, unfortunately, will not paint anything. And the mobility of this design is almost zero. And then there is nothing left but to get an electric model.

Alternative

If you opt for an electric gun, then when buying you need to pay attention to many factors, and especially to the characteristics of the unit. An insufficient power console will disappoint you and your customers.

What you should pay attention to:

  1. Power. The nominal value of the electric models that will subsequently be used for painting cars with liquid rubber should not be lower than 600 watts. A unit with less power is not able to achieve smoothness of the coating.
  2. Performance. In order for the rubber to be applied well to the surface, it must fly out of the nozzle at a sufficient speed. Therefore, do not take an electric model with a capacity below 1.1 liters per minute. Otherwise, 30 microns of thickness is the maximum result.
  3. Ease of use. The gun should be lightweight and practical. It will be better if you opt for one-handed models. Two-handed are quite heavy, and it will be physically difficult to paint them for a long time.
  4. Volume of the tank. If the paint is sprayed at a speed of 1.1 liters per minute, then the tank should be of sufficient volume, at least 0.5 liters and at most 1 liter. If the tank is smaller, then you will fill in a new portion of rubber for longer, and with a larger volume we will return to point 3.

Practical choice

As practice has shown, in professional studios use a conventional (air) spray gun. If scientifically - pneumatic. Choosing a really good gun of this type is quite difficult, since it has a lot of subspecies and purposes, as well as some inconveniences:

  • bottom feed - the gun is held horizontally;
  • top feed - the tank closes the view.

Pneumatic spray gun with lower feed

If you approach the classification in more detail, then the spray guns are equipped with systems:

  • low pressure;
  • high volumes;
  • low volumes;
  • low pressure;
  • medium pressure;
  • high feed efficiency and many others.

Each has its own application range, and not every one is suitable for coloring with rubber. A good option for this purpose would be an air type pistol. It has a very low return and almost does not create clouds, which means that the material consumption is much less.

The main advantage of this type is that it does not need a very powerful compressor, which is very convenient, since the dimensions can be halved and electricity consumption will be noticeably reduced.

For liquid rubber, you can use other pneumatics, in which two systems are built at once: medium pressure and high volumes. In fact, this is the same as the owner of a high-performance system, but an order of magnitude cheaper, and it can be used for airbrushing later. With such a gun it is easy to apply an even layer of rubber at the required 70 microns, and working with it, as with the previous one, will be a complete pleasure.

The main criteria for choosing a spraying unit will be two main factors - the area of the room to supply equipment, and the monetary resource. It’s better to get good tools right away than to suffer with cheap alternatives and, as a result, still go bankrupt for quality ones.
