Features of sealants

All compositions of the Soudal brand, regardless of the type and form of release, are characterized by similar properties. These include the highest quality, reliability and durability, as well as ease of use and long life of the finished seam. The composition of the sealants is represented by various polymer materials (composites) of the latest generation. However, the specific properties of a product vary depending on its type.

Types and specifications of sealants

Soudal products are packaged in tubes of various sizes, cartridges and sausages. Among the huge assortment, it is easy to choose a sealant that is ideally suited to individual needs. The most popular are silicone and acrylic compounds, a little less popular are polyurethane, polymer and bitumen.

Silicone

Silicone based sealants are characterized by a high degree of elasticity and water resistance. No wonder they are considered universal, because they can be used indoors, for outdoor use, in the bathroom and toilet. Compositions with silicone work in a wide temperature range, are resistant to mechanical stress, vibration, abrasion, give minimal shrinkage.

Neutral silicone sealants are suitable for most known materials. They do not contain acids, therefore they are not able to provoke metal corrosion. Acidic agents cost an order of magnitude cheaper, but are used only on plastic, wood, and tile. The most famous silicone compounds of the Soudal brand are:

1. Soudal Universal. It is one of the professional sealing agents, it has a neutral type of polymerization. It is used to work with aluminum, iron, glass, wood, brick and concrete, acrylic, plastic. Suitable for external and internal use.
2. Silicone for aquariums. The sealant includes 100% silicone, therefore it is completely harmless to plants, inhabitants of aquariums and terrariums. It does not contain plasticizers, solvents, dyes, it adheres firmly to glass, ceramics, metal, wood, and has a high joint strength of 17 kg / sq. cm.
3. Neutral Silicone. This is a building composition with a neutral type of polymerization, which is intended for sealing joints, grouting joints when working with building materials. It is used for bonding porous and smooth surfaces, does not cause corrosion of metals, after curing it remains flexible and resistant to atmospheric precipitation.
4. Sanitary Silicone. The acid composition was made specifically for work in the bathroom: sealing bathtubs, pallets, sinks, filling tile joints.It is not afraid of moisture, mold, fungus, after curing does not shrink. Due to the acid reaction, the product is not suitable for metal bases.
5. Silicone for glazing. Acid sealant is intended for glazing, sealing of air conditioning systems, display cases, freezers. It retains a white tint, does not turn yellow and does not darken, does not deteriorate from the action of ultraviolet radiation.

Polyurethane

Polyurethane-based materials are characterized by maximum resistance to external influences and a long service life. They have no less elasticity than silicone compounds, therefore they are not afraid of vibration, mechanical loads. After curing, such products can be stained, and any popular paints are easily held onto them.

The most famous polyurethane sealant is Soudaflex 40 FC - a one-component composition with fast cure, available in white, gray, black. After hardening, the joints are odorless, resistant to chemicals, oils, gasoline, are highly durable and not susceptible to damage. This tool is used for joints, which often undergo shrinkage and vibration, for example, for sealing floors, concrete walls, tiles.

Sealant Soudaflex 14 LM also contains polyurethane in the composition. It is one-component, easy to use. Due to thixotropy, the product does not flow from vertical bases, suitable for any inclined surfaces. Great for forming joints up to 3 cm wide, and is characterized by high adhesion to most building materials.

Bitumen

The manufacturer produces a number of tools that are suitable for equipping the roof and other outdoor works: sealing gutters, terraces, foundations. The most famous is Soudal roofing adhesive sealant based on bituminous elastomers. This waterproof and waterproof product is used for the following purposes:

• closing cracks and crevices in roofing;
• sealing joints of the roof;
• repair of gutters, gutters;
• bonding of roofing material;
• sealing of building structures with a slight shift (up to 10%).

It is possible to apply a bituminous composition even on wet surfaces. It is resistant to ultraviolet, temperature drops ranging from –35 ... + 130 degrees, has a high degree of adhesion with concrete, ceramics, tiles, metal and other building materials.

Acrylic

All acrylic compositions are environmentally friendly, safe for health, do not emit odors, therefore, they are excellent for interior work. They are actively used in repair and construction: for filling cracks, seams, filling gaps, joints on the floor, walls. Popular acrylic sealants are:

1. Parquet sealant. Available in a wide range of colors that match the basic tones of the floor. After polymerization it is subject to coloring, varnishing.
2. Acryrub Designed for professional use, has improved properties. It can be used for sealing surfaces made of concrete, wood, brick, gypsum, plaster, stone. It does not tolerate constant contact with moisture.
3. Instant acrylic. A solid film on the seam of this tool is formed in 10 minutes. Already after this time, the joint can be painted with any paint.

High temperature

The most well-known agent that easily tolerates heat is high temperature silicone. After application, it creates an elastic pad that can withstand heating up to +285 degrees.The sealant is suitable for metal, glass, ceramics, replaces gaskets made of rubber, felt, paper, cork. The main properties of the material:

• resistance to oils, greases, fuels, grease;
• frost resistance;
• resistance to atmospheric precipitation.

Another composition that does not deteriorate from high temperatures is fireproof acrylic sealant. It has a high fire resistance class (EI 240), withstands heating up to +300 degrees, does not burn, begins to swell and foam under the influence of fire. It is recommended to use it in rooms requiring an increase in the fire resistance class in order to fill joints, joints on porous substrates.

Shades of sealants

Soudal brand formulations come in a variety of colors. Silicone products are difficult to stain, so they have pigments introduced into the composition. On sale you can find such options:

Sanitary compositions contain antiseptic components that prevent the growth of mold and fungus, so it is advisable to use them in rooms with high humidity.

Acrylic sealants are used mainly for internal work, since they do not have high resistance to weathering and precipitation. They are ideal for fixing floor coverings, panels, sealing cracks between individual lamellas. Bituminous and polyurethane compounds are used for external construction and repair, especially often for sealing roofs and foundations. Heat-resistant materials are suitable for the installation of furnaces, chimneys, heating systems and other heating substrates.

Instruction for use

The exact instructions are always on the packaging of the specific sealant. However, the approximate procedure for all formulations will be the same. First, prepare the surface: clean, wash, degrease and dry. If the sealant is applied to the seam or joint, the edges are pasted over with masking tape so as not to mess them up.

Sealants in 300 and 600 ml cartridges are conveniently applied with a mounting gun. After installing the cylinder, pull the trigger, squeeze the product, then immediately level it with a spatula moistened with water. The same tool removes excess material. Drying time depends on the type of composition, usually this period does not exceed 24 hours.
